Vision

Brooke Schmidt is excited about Canton’s forward momentum — excited about families staying in our city to celebrate special occasions, to enjoy concerts and outdoor events, to explore mixed-use developments. She emphasizes team spirit, communication, as well as down and dirty hard work. Community building and steady growth are priorities for Brooke, and she believes the best way to progress down that path is by residents knowing their representatives enough to comfortably have candid conversations with them. That is where Brooke excels. She is truly "of the people."

Brooke brings a new perspective to the Council as a parent with school-aged children. Balancing work and family life since she moved to Canton in 2006, Brooke relates to what families want and need in their hometown. She knows the importance of feeling safe, included, and considered within a community. For instance, as a parent of children with food allergies, Brooke would love to see simple signage at City parks reminding families to keep food off playground equipment. She would also love to follow up on the idea of a youth initiative or advisory board where the needs of Canton’s children are prioritized through literacy programs and other child-focused actions.

A nature lover, Brooke looks forward to supporting the trail system in Canton as well as continuing to work in the spirit of the #CantonForward movement. Brooke recognizes small business owners should have an easier time getting their questions answered when they decide to place roots in Canton; a small business liaison or committee could provide this. Brooke's appreciation of the arts and the importance they play in creating a vibrant community means she is actively looking for ways to build that community in Canton.

Brooke chose Canton to raise her family, and she looks forward to paving the way for future generations to do the same.
